well a metronome is a metronome i dont quite see why you dont think its "good" enough. but i just type free online metronome into google and click the first one.

on the actual topic. I myself prefer playing about 10 bmps over what i can play cleanly. and alternating up and down a scale in quarter then eighth notes until i get it perfect, usually being around 5 practice sessions. and just work my way up. eventually flatlining, then comes the crunch time
