Just getting started...suggestions please

I have always loved the sound of a guitar. I have always wanted to learn to play. So i have finally made up my mind to get started but i dont know what i should get. i only have a part time job and i'm about to have a truck payment so i cant get anything really expensive but i dont want some cheap crap. so any help that you can offer would be greatly appreciated

also, i just got a bass from my sister that i am going to try to learn to play so suggestions on self teaching would be helpful too.

hmmmm.... Maybe you should wait until you have a little bit more $$$. In instruments you get what you pay for, a good instrument will last you much longer and take you longer to outgrow, they also usually keep a relatively good sellback value if you lose interest.
