I could use an opinion

I am a 16 year old who has never played an instroment in his life. Most of my friends play music and really i just want to jam with them, and maybe start a band with them. I dont know what instroment to learn how to play. Almost all my friends play guitar so i dont want to do that, and my best friend is a drummer, and i know quite a few people that play bass. I was thinking to try saxaphone because i love ska music and no one i know plays it. Anyone have an opinion on that? Should i learn that or something else?

where you're not 100% on what instrument you really want to play i'd suggest signing up for band class. sure it's a little nerdy but at least that way you get free training and access to the instrument to help you make a better decision as to what you really want to play.

I don't think it's considered nerdy anymore. All the kids i know who have recently been in it seem to be just fine :)

are you a nerd though, rezZ?

Start out with the Triangle, then move up to Cowbell... it should all become clearer after that ;)

I think the Saxophone would be cool to know, like you said... nobody really learns that one.

yeah no I agree. The band kids at my high school used to play cards and skip out to drink.

Its not the 70's anymore despite some peoples discography around here.

Up until the 4th grade I was. Actually came in 1st in a 1st-3rd grade statewide chess competition. (so yea) Grew out of it though. Not that i still don't enjoy chess.

I play the saxophone. It's easy, and it's a sweet instrument. I'd say go for it.
