I have had a couple multi effects pedals but like mr.dave I always go back to the single analog pedals. The sound is much better than what you get with a multi unit.

I've got a Zoom pedal, it has multi effects and you can customize the sounds of the effects.

The model I have is pretty basic because I am not very technical I bought it several years ago and I'm not sure what models they have available now. But it's a great pedal.

ok, honestly...why would you want a multi effects pedal? they are never as good as good boutique pedals..
I've owned a Line 6 XT pro and a Boss ME-50
my single pedals are much much better...

You could used the multi effect pedal for some of the modulation and maybe some strange effects that you wouldnt normally buy..but for your main sounds..distortion etc please please dont use the distortion effects on a multi effects board..it will seriously suck!!!!

hope this is helpful...

try these pedals for distortion..

G2D custom overdrive
G2D Morpheous
G2D cream tone

Multi-effects pedals are great for beginners, people who aren't drastically serious about it, or looking for a cheaper option. Of course they're not as good as single boutique pedals. But they're often just a cheaper way of getting a whole lot of effects which you can manipulate and use as you please. On one pedal.

Fair point.

I would steer clear of multi effects pedals for your main sound. Buy a good pedal to get a good distortion sound and a reasonable delay. Don't have to spend mega bucks but dont use those effects on a multi effect pedal board. Well thats my experience anyway... I did waste a lot of money on multi effects!!

cant go wrong with a big muff and a digital delay
