Buying new guitar, need advice...

I only have my friends borrowed guitar now. ( well actually for the last 3 years ) I sold some parts to my drum set and by next paycheck ll have about 300 to put towards a new guitar. I do not necessarily even mean new, used is actually preferable so i can afford a better guitar.

Does anyone have any suggestions? My only requirement would be that is a hollow or semi-hollow body, because i like the look much better and tend to prefer there sound.

I love hollowbodies. I wanted an ES-335 but they were too ****ing big and WAY too expensive (I think $3500 new or some **** like that). Then I saw one of my favorite guitarists (Josh Homme) using a hollowbody, a Gretsch. I checked it out. Personally, I love the Gretsch sound. Most of their models are relatively cheap, and they have a great hollowbody warmth. Not too heavy or big and there are a few models with a tremolo if you want one. And yes, they're pretty. Very pretty.

Go to a GuitarCenter and test one out, or whatever you want to do.

I was actually thinking about the SAMICK RL3 HOLLOWBODY ELECTRIC GUITAR. I found for only 250 barely used.

i've got a samick bass and haven't had any issues with it in the years i've had it. tried a few samick guitars back in the day too. they're obviously not a really high end manufacturer but they're still decent instruments.

most online stores are selling the RL3 for around $500-600 too, so you're getting a decent price on it at $250. you'd basically be getting a mid range guitar for an entry level price, i say go for it.

Like the look of that!
Epiphone do a 335 that's worth a look, but whatever you do choose MAKE SURE YOU TRY BEFORE YOU BUY!!!

Well i ended up getting a Samick Avion.

Even though it is not a Hollow body it just plays very nicely, and with some new hardware it can hold its own against the starting originals.

Here is a picture :)

Ooo, a Les Paul. Nice. I don't really like the headstock but whatever. (It's about 0.01% of what I care about a guitar anyways). How does she play? And what kind of amp did you get with it?

Well unfortanitly i only have my ****ty crate amp now, ill save up for new one. (hopefully and older fender)

And it plays WONDERFULLY, and if you go on the website it will explain to you why the head is so small. Apparently when ts smaller there is less resonance and makes it sound better. (above my head, but in multiple places thats what i read)

There's an old bass session player's trick of putting a couple of "G" clamps on the head of a bass to improve sustain and resonance a little.
Sounds strange, but it makes a noticeable difference, though the downside is it destroys the balance of the instrument.
Same principal as different headstock sizes, though - more material, better vibrations.

I just bought the Kirk Hammett signature model off of Ebay..it is made by ESP, the model number is KH-202 and I am very happy with it...it was $365 new..he has a couple different models but this is the cheapest...for the price you can't beat it...notice the skull and cross bones inlay on the neck...the guitar feels great and stays in tune nice..I have been playing guitar for about 15 years and I am very happy with this guitar especially for the price...good luck!!
