Where to find good Left handed guitars

Well im a Southpaw, and ive been playing guitar for about years now, and i think its about time a got a new guitar. Any tips on where to get good lefties? At guitar center they only had like 3, so thats out of the question.

Any help would be appreciated!!:yeah:

P.S. it sucks being a lefty in this right handed world.

if memory serves me correctly esp/ltd offers their models as left handed for the same price as a traditional right handed guitar, might not have all the same finishes available though.

most other manufacturers usually add $100 to the price for a lefty.

Thats why being a lefty sucks. I was actually thinking about playing right handed, but then i decided not to.

It makes no sense to me why they woukd charge 100 extra dollars to the price of a left handed guitar. And BTW what I had in mind was a website of sometime type where you can see a gallery of buyable guitars. Not Ebay, but something similar.;)

the increase in price is a throwback to the hand made manufacturing days. it took a little more work to make a left handed model. it's not just a matter of flipping the guitar over, especially when it comes to the neck / headstock. but with today's modern manufacturing plants there's really no need for the price increase.

musician's friend (as was linked earlier) is a great site to browse your options, you can set up a gallery pretty quickly using the options on the left side of the page. right now they've got 53 lefty electrics listed.

i just kinda see it as discrimination. why should something out of my control cost me more money? and no its not "just that easy" but if the ******* who designed the manufacting plant gave two ****s about anything other than his profit margin then he would design it capable of producing both. oh whats that? since they make guitars left handed that means the factories must have been designed to handle both. now here is the real kicker; since 10% of the population is left handed, that means that to make up the difference all they would have to do is make right handed guitars $10 more to offset leftys price... which doesnt make sense because you think they would do that. so in reality what is happening is they just found a way to rip us off. THANKS GUYS!

but like i said, dont fret because according to wikipedia "In 2006, researchers at Lafayette College and Johns Hopkins University in a study found that left-handed men are 15 percent richer than right-handed men for those who attended college, and 26 percent richer if they graduated. The wage difference is still unexplainable and does not appear to apply to women.[30]"

that's not quite how business works.

so they have the manufacturing setup. then they have to invest in custom tools to create the products and even more to create the left handed versions - for a possible 10% of their target market. which tools do you think will get paid off first?

they could always just tell you to suck it up and string it upside down instead. why does the company owe you anything in the first place? just because it's a business practice you don't like doesn't mean it's discrimination.

joyboyo53 08-26-2008 04:34 PM

they don't owe me anything personally, but they owe me something as a customer because a business is dependent upon their customers.

discrimination is defined as the prejudicial treatment (increased price) of a person or a group of people based on certain characteristics (left handedness). so yes it is discrimination.

all i am saying is they could make the right handed guitars $10 more to offset the difference. what is more fair, someone having to pay $10 more or $100 more? i mean i understand that thats just the way business goes, but it is discrimination none the less.

Are you a lefty to or what jgd85? If you are thats cool, i dont meet many other handed people that play guitar.

by the way, restring the right handed guitar upside down would'nt work, because if you did that, the volume knob and pickup would be in your way. We're not talking about classical guitars here bro, in that case it would be fine but for an electric guitar, it just wouldnt work out.

I Apprecite the help so much guys, thanks!!!!
