Best amplified acoustic sound?

I like to use a fair amount of pedals (looper, delays, mainly non-effects). I have been using a Fender Acoustasonic 30 DSP with just the preamps in my guitars (Fishman Aura in the Martin, and stock crappy Ovation whatever). I have heard from many people that a mic and PA system gives the best sound. I'm wondering what other people think. I have only ever used a PA system if thats all the venue has to use, and I have had some minor issues with background noise going through the looper. Would that be just a poor set-up thing or is that a normal occurance? I like how my Fender amp sounds, but the people I play around think I should be on the mic... Any imput is welcome.

It really depends what you're playing. If you're on lead and you don't pluck like an ass hole, it sounds much better through a mic/PA. To capture the warm acoustic tones, guitar mics are traditionally very sensitive and don't work well with heavy strumming (the mic pops).

But at a live venue, no one is going to be able to discern the difference. Whatever's cheapest.

I am interested to know what pedals you use with your acoustic? I've used pedals with electrics for years - but am keen to get some different sounds from my acoustic electric guitar.
