Default hmm ESP

so i was down at this music store i frequently visit and i decided to try out some ESP's for there were several. I started to notice a common feeling i have toward them that one of two things is wrong. It either sounds cheap (like you picked it up for $200 from your cousin philly) and those were the ones with the ESP pickups or more commonly the pickups were too close together. well that second one might be because i'm used to 22 frets not 24. either way is there a neckthrough ESP with 22 frets. but really i dont hate ESP aside from the fact that there designs are creatively lacking. i'm rambling srry.

where you actually trying ESPs or LTDs?

either way, there is at least one 22 fret neck through body ESP. it's the eclipse custom, and about 4 grand or so google says.

actually, the models with the ESP pickups are the lowest end LTD models they make.

mid-high end LTDs are actually pretty good (400 series and up). they're made in korea as opposed to indonesia and have either EMG or Seymour Duncan pickups (same as the much pricier ESPs). actual ESPs are made in japan.

based on your first post it seems that you only tried out their lowest end products. they played like something you got for $200 from your cousin because they retail for about as much.

ESP LTD's are for shit. I had a red 5 string and it had a broken truss rod, crummy strings, and the tone was really flat
I traded it for a Laguna, which isnt bad bu i plan on something else.

what series LTD? generally speaking they have a simple number convention 200-1000 but the basses seem different. at which point it's up to the pickups to tell where it was made and where jump in quality occurs - were they ESPs or EMGs?

broken truss rod should have been replaced immediately and covered through your local shop's warranty (most places offer 30 days). crummy strings are your own responsibility. you should have recognized the tone being flat when you tried it before dropping cash - again your responsibility

keep in mind that LTDs run from about $200 on the lowest end to over $1000 for their deluxe series. where there's a significant price range there's a significant quality range.
