Can't decide = Help me out.
 

Hey all.
I've decided to trade in my trusty Maton ms-500 for either:
1. A Fender Mustang
2. A Fender Jaguar
3. A Fender Jazzmaster

They are all second hand and all the same price.
I can't decide which....so help me out.

i'd try them all. but i'd likely leave with the jaguar unless it has a nasty paint job hahaha

What scale do you prefer? I'd choose the the Jazzmaster myself because I'm so used to 25.5" scale guitars and I love clean tones but, the jaguar and mustang handle distortion better and are great for people with small hands.

Edit: I can't find a Maton ms-500 on sale anywhere, not even on ebay. Talk about obscure guitar brands.

i think the 3-way rotary switch would aggravate me, then again it's probably mean to stay in position no matter how hard you play unlike toggle switches.

I'm a bit unsure about the Jag's aesthetically. I much prefer the look of the Mustang and the Jazzmaster. I'm yet to give them a play (I found a great second hand guitar store that has a few examples of each model) so I'll let you know.

Looselips: For playing comfort I love the short scale of my maton, but live I find short scales tend to go out of tune way easier. My other main guitar (a 1985 Schetcter PT) is a 25.5 and I find that much more suitableto live work.

The main reason for letting the maton go is that I don't feel it cuts through enough in a live mix.

Hahaha yeah the Maton, well I'm Australian, so they aren't that obscure here. Mine was custom made for the guitarist in James Reyne's band, so it'sa fair bit different from the standard.

Mr: Dave: Cosmetically the rotary switch looks great, but it was one of the stupidest bits of guitar design I have witnessed in a long time, it is really really flimsy, i've broken mine somany times.

bummer on the switch. that's one thing i'd be hesitant with in regards to those fenders. they're covered with knobs and switches.

as for not cutting through a live mix well enough have you considered a good preamp or maybe new pickups?

My pick ups rock, they're made by a now defunct australian company Mastertone,they're active but so full of life. It's more just the general sound of the guitar, it sounds great, it just doesn't really fit my style, and I'm a bit bored of the guitar.

I found one on ebay for a good price too hehe

Maybe because mustangs are twice as cheap as a Jazzmaster or Jaguar?
