Dean Markley Acoustic Pickup

Hey,

Dean Markley 3010 Pro Mag Plus Acoustic Pickup

I went to a local music store and looked for the cheapest pickup I could find and this is what they had. Someone who came into my guitar class and performed said he got his for, "like 20 bucks". This is priced at $50 though.

I read on another forum (through google) that no acoustic pickup gives true or good sound. I wanted to know if you guys had any wisdom you could throw on me before I would make this purchase.

I own this exact pickup. I think the sound is pretty good as far as these things go but of course it isn't perfect. When I record I usually use the Markely pickup plus a mic pointed at the guitar from in front of the person playing it and mix the two together. So far I've gotten pretty good sound with this method.

Kind of a side note: My pickup has also developed a minor short in the cord that crackles uncontrollably every once in a while. I don't know if this is a typical problem with this model or with just something specific to mine but you may want to look around the web to see if you find any similar complaints.

I had a DM acoustic pick-up very similar to this one and I hated it. I couldn't get anything less than a high-gain overdriven sound from it. I ended up having a Fishman bridge transducer installed and I loved it ever since.
