Need help

I'm using a dean dave mustaine signature vmntx guitar. i want replacing my pck ups and tone and volume pots. but i'm not sure what i've to do. i've selected seymour duncan sh-13 dimebucker for bridge position. I've selected severel pick up for neck position like seymour duncan parley gates, dimarzio d activator-x and gibson 494R hot ceramic pickup. I don't know which one is best for neck position. please help me with your suggestions. I also want to change my tone and volume pots. I've learnt that their are 2 kinds of pots. one is liner and another is audio. But I've no idea which one is installed in my guitar. I've selected dimarzio 1meg custom pots for volume and tones. Will it work for both tone and volume? pls help me. I hardly need it.

That's an oxymoron.

PS: Take the guitar to a repair shop ;)

while showering, a little voice inside me said "cheez, you were not very helpful to that guy" to which i replied, "i know but the spelling was...well you know". that's when the voice said to me "oh! this is coming from the guy who's staunch allegiance to lower case has been known to give people fits!"
"touche'" i replied, thinking that maybe the voice has a point. he then went on a long winded diatribe about how i have a love affair with run-on sentences, and my maddening (to some) minimalist attitude towards punctuation. alright already! i said. "so i have a few issues of my own, big deal". a few? the voice questioned "what about the fact that some of your posts seem to go on and on and on without ever spilling a drop of useful content?" clearly, the voice had my number, so-to-speak. folks who know me would not be surprised to hear me say that on occasion it may even be intentional. but, to make a long story short, after careful consideration it dawned on me that you might take offense to my good natured ribbing and not see the humor in my critique. in certain rare instances, that has happened in the past. so before things get out of hand i thought i would just metaphorically "open my mouth" to show that my tounge is firmly planted in my cheek. :wavey:

Unless you are switching to active electronics (which by your list of pickups I can tell that you are not) you don't necessarily need to change the potentiometers unless you've got a cheap guitar with shitty electronics.

Unless you're good with a soldering iron (and based on the lack of correct spelling and grammar with which you post, I'm going to infer that you are relatively young and have probably never used one) I would buy all of the components and take them and your guitar to the local guitar shop and have them do the work.

^^^^ Yup, yup, and yup.

In addition....the D-Activator also works well as a bridge position pickup. Some of the Ibanez Xiphos models come with D-Activators in both the bridge and neck position and the pickup is well suited for both.

can i ask, how do you guys learn that sort of thing, which pick-ups are good in what position, etc? i've never changed the pick ups in a guitar. i've always just played what's in 'em.

Well...certain pickups are designed for certain positions. The manufacturers design them so that they accentuate the sound that the strings are making at that spot. The bridge has a more treble/mid rich sound and more definition, and the neck has a rounder, more mid/bass rich sound, and thus, based on the equalization of the pickup (the amount of bass, midrange and treble output) manufacturers label the pickup as being for either the bridge, neck or center position (for guitars that are so equipped).

That being said, some pickups produce unique sounds when used in either position. Some examples of which are, as mentioned, the DiMarzio D-Activator and the EMG 81, 85 and 89 (though EMGs don't have the most "unique" sound out there).

Really though.... you find out by just experimenting with them.

All due respect, but if you don't know what you're doing, why you're doing it or how to do it....leave it alone.
