you pretty much answer your question in your thread. the main thing to look for is something that stays in tune, at that price range you're not going to be seeing huge differences in quality. you have a few options for whatever tone you're hoping to get as well. most major manufacturer's offer something at that price level as well so you should be able to find something that suits your aesthetic fancy as well.

and remember...

a crappy guitar through a good amp will sound better than a good guitar through a crappy amp.
