What style or genre are you?
 

Thought itd be interesting to hear what style everyone plays,I guess this thread is for those who create music.If you play other peoples music thats cool too,I dont give a sh*t.If you wanna put naked pics of your mom or GF thats cool too,who am I to judge. *shrug*:band:

i did nothing but playing along to cds for a few years (90s alt rock).

then i did nothing but hardcore improv for a few years.

now i'm not sure what i do anymore.

On acoustic I play folk-type stuff.
On the electric, not much except additive texture and ambiance in production.
Drums; anything... but I have a love for Funk and Jazz drumming, and it's mostly what you'll hear me playing any time I'm on my kit.
I'm no stellar bassist, but I enjoy working with a simple yet smooth accompaniment.
I don't have a piano, so I play a synth...

All that added together usually results in a strange brew that lies at the heart of my productions when I'm creating, colored by a fairly intensive electronic music background and a love for the rawness of punk.

I produce a range of different styles, mostly electronic, but when I integrate all my tastes I usually end up with somewhat of a weekend leftover Goulage that's strange in theory, but not so bad on the taste buds if you aren't picky about your flavors.

I can't really explain it any better than that.

I started playing guitar way back when I was 10 years old. My dad plays sax so I used to strum the chords to jazz standards, New Orleans and Chicago style while he played along on the sax. A great way to learn rhythm and playing in sax keys like Eb, Bb, F and so on.....My favourite music then was T Rex, a great band.

Once I started high school all the guitarists eventually find each other and decide to form a band. Ok, can't have a band with five guitars. I volunteered to get a bass for my next Christmas and so I played bass mainly for the next 20 years,mainly in my dad's jazz band.

Have always loved reggae music and formed a band but found I was struggling to play reggae bass and sing at the same time. That's when I moved back to guitar and have stayed with it ever since really.

Presently I have a weird mixture. I just play anything I like and now I'm older, I like to experiment mixing different styles. I love to take an old Irish folk song, lay down a reggae backing track then play the melody as a guitar solo. I am also really into African soukous style guitar originally from Congo I think. I have recently bought a djembe drum so I record a section of that and then play along to that either with my Greek bouzoukie, my Tacoma acoustic bass or my old Patrick Eggle. I have this guitar set up with an extra top Estring in the Dstring position but tuned to the octave up D. This is a trick some of the African guitarists have used in the past.

when i started playing guitar i hated al the songs everyone plays like crazy train and smoke on the water i never had a guitar teacher but my mother was in to music and had me learn guitar by learning scales i started playing iron maiden and slayer a whole lot then moved on to more metal core type stuff now i make my own songs and its like melodic metal its heavy but its still melodic not just heavy fuzz but the main thing that helps me progress in music would probably be raging testoterone and monster energy :dj::band::drummer::bonkhead: <== SLIPKNOT

Cool,its my turn. I wish I could label myself (not really)but I dont really know what style I play.A little bit of the sound that has been coming out lately I would say is "indy".It sounds really mellow and kinda sad,I dont do that on purpose,but thats what comes out.Maybe its the mood im in.Ive also been playing a lot of ska and mexican folk.I guess we'll see what other flavor I toss in the blender later on.

My musical styles have changed so much over the eight years that I've played guitar. For my first two I all I did was play along to CD's of '90's alternative rock stuff like Smashing Pumpkins, Bush, and Nirvana. My first band I was in was more of a punk rock band like Social Distortion. In 2005 I did my best to try and get a guitar tone like Billy Corgan which resulted in me buying over $1500 worth of guitar equipment. New amp, added a new pickup to my telecaster, bought a slew of new pedals (of which I only have one now) and a few of Smashing Pumpkin guitar tab books. As of late I've been focusing more on stoner and post-metal, trying to make the most out of my rig that I've got going now.

Conversely when I'm playing my acoustic guitar it's for the most part blues or country songs with the occasional jazz piece.

I suppose if anything, y'all'd call me a shredder, but really I'll play just about anything, I just gravitate to shred because I enjoy a technical challenge, but I find jazz improvisation too dry to get into sometimes. Structured jazz is lovely but the heavy jazz theory involved in things like zappa and miles davis is just too much.

Acoustic wise, I'm very much in the michael hedges school of 'I'm not a guitarist, I'm a composer who plays guitar'

Meaning I'll play anything as long as it sounds good to my ear. For this reason I do a lot of writing on acoustic.
