Beginner Keyboard

Hi, I would like to start learning how to play the Piano and I am looking to get a Keyboard. I would like to get one that has a large variation of sounds and such and I would like it to be under 300$

I am looking at this one possibly, but I am wondering if I can use the usb to connect with fruity loops studio via midi.

I have a Yamaha PSRE-413 and a PSR-12, and both have MIDI ports (in and out)

how do you like it? does it sound good and will it be suitable for a beginner?

no not really, I wanted a digital piano before but I realized that I wont have enough money for that, so I have to settle for a Keyboard instead

well at your price point it's not going to make a huge amount of difference between what you get.

your main decision will be between a unit that produces a small amount of sounds decently and a unit that produces a large amount of sounds less than decently for the most part. only your ears can determine which one is providing good sounds.

the other thing to pay attention to is what kind of output options it has like... headphone jack, built-in speakers, amp jack.

also, MIDI is it's own beast. you'll need a giant bottle of advil and a metric buttload of patience to get it working right at the start. WAY more hassle than it's worth if you're still only learning to play the instrument. or has the technology improved dramatically over the last 5 years?


both Casios you link earlier would be fine to start. i'd strongly suggest buying the 'optional' power adapter listed for all models as well.

They're both great. I recommend the PSR-12 for a beginner - the controls are really easy to use and you don't have to press too hard on the keys to get a sound. The MIDI shouldn't be too much trouble to hook up either, though I haven't used it in awhile. There's also a plug for a sustain pedal and headphones.
