Need BASS help (to buy)
 

Hi! I have been playing bass for really 6 weeks. I am borrowing a Washburn from a friend to learn and then after much research I bought an Ibanez SR300 b/c it sounded great in the store after playing it on a few different visits. I got it home and I don't like it at all. Way too bright---couldn't compare it in the store, but it sounded (and played GREAT) there. I'm a petite gal, so I am looking for a sort of lightweight bass that is NOT active (I figured this out NOW--I just need something more simple for my purposes). I just want a nice bassy bass that won't kill me to play. The Washburn weighs on me literally after awhile. So does anyone know of a passive bass that is light but is not a total beginner's bass---but one I could happily play for years?

Er I can't remember what constitutes a light weight bass but you want a petite neck I'd definately look at a Fender Jazz type design, maybe a good quality coyp. Nice, thin necks, always lovely to play. I got a Fender and it just feels like it was hand crafted by God himself. I don't know how heavy they are, would always depend on the manufacturer and the bass itself but in terms of having petite fingers it's definitely a winner in my books.

I recommend a Peavey Predator. The one I used to play was really comfortable and had great tone, but that also depend on what you're playing through. Speaking of which, what kind of amp are you playing through?

Anyway, it was also lightweight. I was about 13 when I was playing it, and I could do that comfortably for 3 hours.

But if you're a really small girl, you might want to look into a short-scale neck, like on a Fender Bronco bass.
