Music Theory

What is your favorite part of music theory? Personally, the circle of 5th's amazes me the most. ^.^

I'm quite particular to the whole major 5th/minor 3rd concept myself. I find it particularly mind blowing and erotic.

the minor fall and the major lift

The use of modes (all except Ionian and Aeolian of course), and tritones. Each mode creates a totally different atmosphere than the standard major/minor sound. And tritones just add another element to a piece when used properly!

I'm going to second the tritones.

I like ****ing around with extended harmonies because it's interesting to see what patterns I can get from it. Like moving from closed voicings to open voicings in 7th, 9th, 11th, 13th chords.

Also intrigued with having multiple keys at once. I play piano and I've found some compositions that have treble and bass in different keys and it adds that extra layer of complexity to it.

I also love fugues.

Forgot to add that I like suspensions.

my favourite part of music theory was learning how to forget it while playing it.

I like that one as well! Suspensions can be hard to notate in a four-part score though - trying to avoid any parallels while making the suspension actually work :-/

Lol I just started on the circle of fifths... Watching you guys taking a whack at those suspensions and all that makes my head spin lol :D
