Surf sound?

How can I get a good surf rock ventures esque sound? Which effects would be good to get? preferably something cheap.

Fender Vibrolux and a Telecaster :D

I already have a guitar I am interested in an effects pedal. Also cheap does not mean more than 1000$. How are danelectro pedals for surf?

[Royal Tenenbaum] 12-24-2010 10:53 PM

Never used 'em. I don't know.

Gee your a lot of help

You're looking for a spring reverb pedal, of which there are many, but I recommend the Electro-Harmonix Holy Grail Reverb. It is a bit spendy, but worth the cash. There are definitely other cheaper reverb pedals out there for less money that include a spring reverb as one of their settings.

EDIT: A tremolo pedal would also be very helpful.

Thanks man! gonna go for the Holy Grail! saw comparison of it to the boss reverb.

You should listen to D Dale and the Deltones.for the real surf guitar sound.

A Tele imo is the best surf guitar.

Just get a fender amp with real spring reverb, or do what Satchy said, EH is the **** when it comes to pedals.

As long as you have single coils, fat arse strings, and lots of reverb/trem then I think you could nail any sound you needed. **** Dale used like 70 gauge low E strings. I think sometimes even Piano wire.

:( only humbuckers here but I am eventually replacing them with single coils. I have a bigbsy tremolo though which is nice to have really nice surfy sound to em. Why is important to use thick strings?

They give you a more percussive sound.
