Music Stands - your opinion please!!

Hi,

I am a student studying product design. As part of my final year project I have chosen the area of music and to focus on that area. After conducting some initial research, I have decided to focus on the area of music stands, and to develop a interactive/digital music stand for musicians. I would be very interested to find out about some of your experiences using music stands, how you would feel towards a digitalized music stand, and what features you would like to see in a digital music stand (eg. large or small, light or heavy, cheap or expensive, built in features like a Metronome, tuner, etc.). Any of your info, experiences, and comments would be mean a lot to the development of the product.

Thanks!:)

An interactive music stands first function should be to turn pages using a footswitch or even automatically.

Bases should be stable without being bulky, and it would be nice to be able to hold 3 sheets of A4 side by side.

i've never tried a digital music stand in person but i've seen them online and they look to be pretty swanky.

it's basically a small lcd monitor mounted to a stand and the sheet music is displayed on screen. for scrolling i'd be surprised if it didn't offer a foot switch like GB mentioned or something like how guitarpro works for its tab where you have a visual indicator scrolling across the music so you know where you're supposed to be that in turn automatically scrolls through the music. no actual page flipping - just scrolling until it's done.

then you also need to start considering what sort of software / hardware configurations will be involved and whether or not you just want the stand to be able to read sheet music files or whether or not the musician can use the stand as a compositional tool as well.

a built in metronome and tuner would be FREAKING AWESOME!!! also - built in back lighting and an option for battery back up power.

on a personal level if i was investing in a digital music stand / sheet music display thing i'd want it to be heavy, not immovable but heavy enough to feel like it could take a bump and not tumble. then again i'm also of the opinion that anyone looking to purchase a digital music stand is also going to be in a position where they can afford higher quality goods and services so i wouldn't expect them to be 'that' cheap.
