What gear are you singers/screamers using?

Hi guys,

Looking to buy my first set up and was wondering if anyone could suggest some gear that a begginer should start out using.

It will be all hardcore/scream lyrics (no clean vocals) and I would just like to know what cheap yet effective gear will give a decent sound.

Cheers guys :)

Come on guys, what mics are you using...amps....

MisterFuzzyHead 02-15-2011 06:49 PM

effects too?

I don't scream so I can't help much here. I use a MXL condenser microphone for vocals though.

What about speakers/amps?

600 watt peavy PA usually. While that is being fixed right now, a regular 50 watt acoustic Dean amp. A PA is best.

screamers often don't use condenser mics

the usual choice is a Shure SM7B for recording
for live just use any dynamic mic, e.g. Shure sm58

I'm looking at buying an entry level PA system for practice (along with a guitar) but I can't find something that is decent and cheap. I did find this //pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/Phonic-Powerpod-740-Plus-S715-PA-System?sku=630489 but they don't ship to Australia... Looking for something in the 500 dollar mark, i'm guessing it's not enough?

Add the http: to the front as I can't post links yet :\

I have a really weird setup:

Shure SM58 Microphone split two different ways to two different mixer line ins. One of the Mixer line ins is going through a chorus guitar pedal. So, the chorused vocals play simultaneously with cleaner vocals, only mixed to a well different pitch range.

It's strange, but I really like it. Probably not good for screamers, or singers who want clarity.
