Baritone Guitars

Does anybody know anything about these, or have any audio/videos of what they sound like? From what I understand, they're functionally identical to a normal guitar except they're an octave lower, but I'm not sure what exactly they sound like or what they can be used for. The reason I ask is because I'm thinking of getting another guitar, but as I've already got an electric and an acoustic I might like to go for something different.

Baritone guitars are not tuned an octave lower but rather a bit lower to a low A or B or C note and follows the usual standard guitar tuning. They are strung with heavier strings.

They were introduced in 60's for playing 'bass-like' melodies and what was called Tic Tac Bass.

Here is a great example of it's tone (1:50), great song also imo.

You're a dude, cheers. While that's an interesting sound and I quite like it, it's not quite what I'm looking for right now. I might consider it, but I reckon I'll be better off getting a mid-range guitar or an electric mandolin instead.

What sound is it you are searching for? (doesn't have to be in musical terms)

Eh, something that I could play properly really. I've spent the past two years playing low end and mediocre guitars, so I'll really play anything on a higher end. Also I'd like to join a band, so the guitar would be more practical, or the mandolin if I'm convincing enough.

playing chords on a Baritone guitar is weird, actually the Baritone doesn't really function like a guitar. If you want to get it together and join a band my suggestion is to get your hands on a decent guitar and amp for now and practice.

The modern use for a baritone is more often than not super low heavy music.

Which is good, because they usually have a longer scale length, which keeps the thicker strings tight, rather than being floppy and mushy like a low B string usually is on a 25.5 scale guitar neck.
