Tubes-Egnater Rebel 20

Hey, I have an Egnater Rebel 20 tube head. Its 20 watts and sounds great. I love the tube mix switch. One thing though, it has a terrible clean sound. No matter what I do, I can't get a smooth clean sound. I was thinking it may need a tube change? Lol, I'm new to tube technology. And would it maybe help if I changed the stock tube type? It has three 12AX7, two EL84, and two 6V6. What I'm asking is ways to maybe get a cleaner sound out of it and maybe ideas for replacement tubes.

Well el84s are not exactly known for having any type of clean headroom as thats typically more for 6l6 Fender style amps or even el-34s in high wattage amps. Their is still no reason your clean should be lacking as thats a great amp. I would first make sure your tubes are securely in, if they are perhaps you just need a replacement.

Tubes by Type

I would if I were you take the amp into your local guitar shop that has an amp tech and have him play it. See what he recommends because you may not need new tubes at all, so dont waste the money.

I wish I had an egnator! Looks like a great little amp.

Instead of making a new thread, thought I'd just bring this one back from the grave.

My amp, the Egnater Rebel 20, has been making these terrible sounds. After about 10 minutes of playing, it makes a "shhhhh" sound. It makes this sound for about twenty seconds and it stops for about 5 min. Then, it starts about again but louder. Is one of my tubes about to go out? Or is it something else perhaps. I've tried it with different guitars and even a couple of different cables and its dead set on doing on going "shhhh". Other than it telling me to turn the volume down, whats wrong with it? I really want to try and avoid having to take it to an amp tech. The closest one to where I live is about hours away.

Could be any of those things. You could always upgrade the tubes anyways and kill 2 birds with 1 stone. Make sure its not a silly little thing like a bad cable pedal or guitar as well before doing anything further.
