Slapguitar Suggestions

I have been playing slap guitar, percussive guitar, and ambient guitar for a couple years now and have completely fell in love with it. I really love Andy McKee's sound, and have been trying to incorporate some of his techniques as well as my own. I play the guitar upright how you're supposed to but sometimes I'll play lap guitar like Eric Mongraine.... So really my question is, what is a great guitar for a slap/percussive genre that can survive drop tunings, open chord tunings, DADGAD tuning, and other tunings without a whole lot of fret buzz and fret clanking (you know, when you do a hammer-on and it doesn't play the right note)? I have a budget of $400-600. Please be kind on my wallet.

Ever consider a fretless guitar? http://www.rondomusic.com/product1052.html

Huh. This is a very great fretless model. Solid wood and triple wound for under 1000? Good deal to me. I might just have to look up some fretless acoustics too to get a good idea of what I was looking for.

..I cannot believe I forgot about fretless guitars.... :shycouch:

It's all good, most people forget the possibility of fretless guitars. I'd owned a fretless bass for a few years and I was still blown away the first time I saw that one for sale.

I've also never actually seen a fretless acoustic though I'm sure they're out there. I've never personally owned an Agile either but a few users here have and vouched for their quality. It's not like you'll get old school Gibson quality for a few hundred but it'll be better than a comparatively priced Epiphone apparently.
