Ernie Ball Music Man Bass - What Do You Think?

I'm thinking of purchasing an Ernie Ball Music Man bass (when I can get the funds). Right now I have an OLP version of the Music Man and I'm very happy with it (for the price, its amazing). I was just wondering if any body had the EB version of the Music Man, and if so, is it worth the money? Is it as good as everyone says it is? Just wondering before I fork out all the moolah.

Stingrays are great basses in my opinion. They sound great and are worth the money.

From what I have seen (and played), they are excellent. I really like thier shape too. Everyone says they sound excellent. Does the active version sound any better than the passive?

First of all, purchasing any Ernie Ball Bass is a great investment; They're awesome instruments. Secondly, altthough iv'e not compared the active with the passive EB basses, generally active picups tend to be a lot brighter and raspier with a punchier and cleaner attack than passive pickups, however EB basses are notorious in themselves for being very punchy, clean, and bright, so it depends on how much of that tonal characteristic you want shaping your sound. Active pickups are also really great if you do a lot of slapping.

pretty much what^^ he said. EB's are great instruments. i used to play a music man in the school band. (although i wasnt very good, and i was forced to be in that class.) it was an awsome bass. the best ive ever played by far. although, you should also check out ibanez basses. they play really well and also have great tone.

its all in the feel of the particular instrument. the playability

my friends got a stingray and its hell joy but the only prob he had with it is that he plays heaps o slap and the input fvcked up on him but i dont know if that applies or what....

Well, I don't play very much slap, so I don't think it would be too much of an issue. Maybe getting the passive wouldn't hurt (they are cheaper too). Plus then I don't need batteries.

Since I don't play slap a whole lot, would there be any reason to get active? I do like alot of punch in my sound. Alot of that depends on your amp / cab setup too, so who knows.

yeh the active just gives you an extra boost...

i got an active and a passive and the active just puts out heaps more sound even on the same amp....

Well then maybe I'll just have to pony up the extra $$ and get the active. I want the best sound I can get (although its gonna take awhile to get it ;-)
