1948 Epiphone Electar Duo Console
 

Hello All. I am completely new to the forum. I just found you by surfing. Anyway I have what I think is a 1948 Epiphone Electar Duo Console. ( 2 sets of 8 strings) Condition is very good to excellent. It is in a case (that I admit is kind of beat but still functional) and also there is a stand and a amp probably from that era. It was my Father's and I took a few lessons on it some 35-40 years ago (Really!) I worked when we put it in there so I don't see why it wouldn't or at least will work with minor tweaking/dusting off. A few references I found by surfing indicate it as rare. Not really looking to sell but was curious of a value. Sorry I don't have pics yet. Any ideas?:confused:

A quick google search says most of the other products around that era seem to be around the $5000 mark. The only way you'll know for sure is to get it appraised, if you can't find a proper music instrument appraiser in your area hit up an antique dealer - at the very least they should be able to give you a ballpark figure.

No worries, it's pretty much impossible to provide a decent estimate on the value of an instrument without being both an expert and able to check out the physical piece.

Please keep us posted on what you find out though.

Yep that's it..The condition is just about what is shown also! Like I said it worked when we shoved it back into the case some 35ish years ago. Also have a homebuilt tube amp from same period that also worked when we "retired" it. One day I will get over to my brothers and take a few pics and post. He's only a mile from me;)

If it worked when you 'retired' it there's really no reason it shouldn't work now so long as it was kept in a cool / dry place. I'd expect the tubes in that homemade amp to need replacing though.
