Epiphone Not Working
 

I have an Epiphone Dot Studio that has stopped working. When plugged in, it just hums and I can't get any signal through. Recently, I changed the neck pickup because that used to be the only pickup that did that. It would come in and out. The bridge position was fine. After the change, it worked fine. The signal never went out. Then one day, I only get random hum from BOTH pickups. Haaalp. I miss my guitar.

Sounds like some wiring got loose, probably in the pickup selector switch, or maybe the input jack. Either way I would have checked those out long before dropping the cash on replacing a pickup too but whatever.

I had one lying around and just went for it. I had been meaning to put it in anyway. Its a single coil that came out of this old Harmony my girlfriend bought me. It actually sounded pretty good xD. I thought I would just go for it.

But how does one go about getting inside that guitar? Surely I don't need to work through the f holes do I?

Sorry if this insults your intelligence but have you checked if the volume controls on your actual guitar are turned up?

I only ask because I almost took mine apart one day when I thought the pick-ups weren't working after making a few adjustments at the neck and bridge!

Lol I did. Played with all my knobs. But I have done that before. :P

First look at what was the last thing you touch see if the problem is there. If not... you have to undo everything, P-ups, pots and jack. And then check for loose wiring, do a continuity check, if you did some soldering make sure there isn't a bad soldering joints. It's good to have string and maybe a bendy wire around to put it all back together again. Use string or bendy wire and thread it through the whole attach it to the compentent and pull it back to the proper spot. Attach before hand to make it easier.

This is if you have a fair understanding of electronics and a lot of patients. If not maybe see if you can find someone to fix it.

Yeah, I will find someone to do this for me. I think I could probably fix it, but I don't think its safe for my guitar if only because I would lose my temper trying to get the wires. Thanks for the help though.
