Bluegrass instruments: Banjo, Mandolin

No one has given any respect to the Banjo nor the mandolin, they're harder to play well than any of those main stream instruments.... Comments?

iv learnt a little mandolin and it is hard. but they are really fun to play :p

PhishFood 06-10-2005 09:07 PM

I play mandolin, although I have an bit of an advantage as I play violin and guitar - mix em together and there you have it. To be honest, I don't play very often but when I do I really enjoy it.

I love banjo. My only problem is that I'm a lefty and I can usually hold my own playing right-handed instruments upside-down, but with a banjo i have to jump over the 5th string peg. Iv'e yet to play a lefty banjo.

Fenixpunk 06-15-2005 11:25 AM

are you talking about the 5th string tuning peg? pretty obvious - tunes the 5th string.
I own a banjo and ya, not easy to play.

PhishFood 06-15-2005 05:54 PM

yah i have a banjo borrowed to me. so hard to play.

Lou Barlow said he learned how to songwrite by playing banjo, said it's much easier to play than guitar at first. Is this not true? I was gonna check it out, to help my guitar playing. :(
