pastor of muppets 07-07-2005 06:23 PM

yes yes

pastor of muppets 07-07-2005 10:55 PM

i thought i would be a complete idiot and put some ernie ball "not even slinky" strings on it (12 - 56 :yikes: ) not exactly bend territory but awesome for rage 'gainst the machine! :p:

phoenixflames 07-08-2005 10:27 AM

Bigger gauges rock! But you have to watch and make sure they dont tear up your nut (oooh boy that sounds bad). Have you ever checked into baritone gutitars??

Fenixpunk 07-08-2005 10:37 AM

ya! another PRS player!!, carefull with the strings though, like phoenixflames mentioned, go to big and it will bust your nut!, ive had to replace the nut on my PRS cuz i put Ernie Ball Super Heavys on it and it couldnt handle it..

On mine it like channled it out, so now when I use lighter gauge strings they sit too low. It should prolly be replaced, but I just stick a little shim under it so it sits at the right height.

pastor of muppets 07-10-2005 02:07 AM

yeah man i checked some baritones but i dont really play that heavy that much, just experimenting.... ill probly move back to 10's in a couple of months...

SATCHMO 07-10-2005 07:14 PM

Baritones are FUN !!!!!!!!

Playin' the super heavys? I make a strange corrolation between the integrity of a man and the gauge of strings he uses, and let's just say that if I do make it to Phoenix I'M buying the first round.

pastor of muppets 07-10-2005 11:20 PM

heh heh.... goodo satch....

im so not used to these strings though, ive been using lights and ultralights for most of my guitar playing life, so much fun just changing to monstrous strings!!!

SATCHMO 07-11-2005 12:25 AM

I play a mixed gauge that's light on the top and heavy on the bottom.

pastor of muppets 07-11-2005 01:09 AM

yeh.... i thought about gettin them but i thought id just go crazy and get the biggest ones i could find........

EDGE 07-11-2005 01:42 AM

I like.

I used to do something similar to that as well. Its definatly nice because then you get the low end crunch without sacrificing the bendablility of your higher strings.

played with Jim Dunlop 60 mm nylons since i break every plastic pick ive ever played with
http://www.musicianshop.com/Jim_Dunl...m_nylon_60.jpg

pastor of muppets 07-11-2005 09:47 AM

i was using bloody 0.75 m picks and i went through 3 of them like that *snaps* so i moved up to 4mm :)

pastor of muppets 07-11-2005 09:49 AM

thats what i have on my PRS....

http://image.www.rakuten.co.jp/sakur...071211155.jpeg

as for my picks, they this thick... ||

:)

Fenixpunk 07-11-2005 09:51 AM

im assuming those were plastic picks? Try nylon, they range from super thin .38 to super thick 1.0 and ive never had one break on me, ive used the same pic one time for almost a year before i lost it, and it was still perfectly usable, just alittle worn around the edges....

.73 are as thick as i like to go, i prefer the .60s. my other guitarist prefers the .46mm but those are too thin for my likings.

pastor of muppets 07-11-2005 09:54 AM

mmm righto... ya they are plastic....

the other plastic ones i had were shreds after any work......

Fenixpunk 07-11-2005 09:58 AM

those strings are huge, i think it was 52s that ended up breaking my nut, and those are 56s!! Id be carefull jamming on those if you still have the stock nut. I had to have mine replaced with a bone nut hand carved to fit the 48s i use.

pastor of muppets 07-11-2005 09:59 AM

ya.... probly wont keep em on for much longer.... gettin sick of no bends :(

pastor of muppets 07-11-2005 10:00 AM

but anyway... goin ta bed... cya later fenix

Fenixpunk 07-11-2005 10:03 AM

Nylons are awesome, especially the Dunlop ones! I use .73 for guitar and .80 for bass. They never break, last a really long time, and are no more expensive than plastic. I would defintaly recommend them!

pastor of muppets 07-11-2005 07:37 PM

okie dokie..... next time i go ta the music shop ill pick some up... i have been using jim dunlop 2mm plastic ones though and theyve been alright, if not a bit hard to handle.....
