Default guitar strings

the strings of my new guitar are really high up and it's extra difficult to bar anyone have any suggestions to fix this? went to guitar center and they told me it'd be around 100$ to fix and not looking to spend that much money right now. i have tried pressing really hard but it isn't very enjoyable. let me know!
