Andy Graham designed the SlapStick I guess the design is somewhat similar in concept to a one string washtub bass. However instead of a string he uses a metal ribbon. He created two other instruments, one was a slapstick connected to a didgeridoo, the other is an instrument resembling a four string harp connection to a didgeridoo.

I've known about those forever and have seen several demos and performances, but can anyone explain to me how they work? Is it a rotating gear hitting a fat string in the box?

Tristan_Geoff 12-01-2016 10:45 AM

I read something about a drum and a string moving across it?

Those guys use a whole bunch of homemade, toy and just unusual instruments.
Great stuff.

It's not an unusual instrument, just an unconventional way to play bass. ftr He uses pitch shift to vary the buzz.

I'd play it with some sticks and/or a violin bow. I've seen several things like this, but the construction element of the video makes it especially cooler.
