Learning to play the keyboard?

I have a 27 key keyboard, and I've never really learned to play it, and I really want to. In the past I've used tabs, but it only gives you the melody, so I think it would just be more fufilling to just learn how to play it.
I want to learn on my own at home. I don't know where to start, and I've tried online lessons but I just can't find one that really makes sense to me.
If anyone can help me get started and teach me the basics, that would be great. Or if anyone can send me a link to a good online class (free, preferably) where I could learn, that would also be wonderful.

Know your notes first. Know where middle C is. Than, understand the use of numbers to represent scales. (In a C scale, C is 1, D is 2, E is 3, F is 4, G is 5, A is 6, B is 7, and you get to a C an octave higher and that is 8.) Sometimes it goes higher, but 8 is generally the magic number. Than, you learn chords, and then... and and... gah, too much text.

I'm a university music student and also teach a little bit, and the problem with online music lessons is that they are not as hands on as traditional lessons. They work if you keep at it, though. 27 keys isn't really a lot to work with, but it's great for a beginner like you. When I took piano lessons as a kid I learned on a real piano, 88 keys and all, but the main focus was on the middle section of the keyboard, which is probably about 40 keys.

I don't know of anything online as I've never used those lessons, but keep looking I'm sure you'll find something! An alternative to that is to look through classifieds and ads - usually university or college music students teach their instrument to get experience and they will advertise there. Students usually have really low rates, sometimes unbelievably low. I'm a flute player and teacher, so I probably won't be of much help to you!

If you are just starting out, you're going to need to know which keys are which, and then you need to learn to read notes.
For keys, just learn to memorize. In the worst case, you can put stickers on the keys.
For learning to read notes, there are plenty of apps on your phone where you can use flashcards to learn while you're sitting around.
Once you feel like you're ok, I'd recommend getting a book for beginners like Level 1 - Lesson Book: Piano Adventures

It's curated to walk you up through learning at a pace that has been shown to work. And it's going to be less frustrating if you do something just outside of your progression rather than something insanely hard.

When I was learning, I would write the letter above the note, so if you're getting tripped up in certain places, you could always do that. Good luck.

Of course! The best thing you can do to learn is to watch lots of YouTube videos on technique, scales and more exercises.

You will surely find what you are looking for, but it takes a lot of patience to learn.
