I used to think rhcp were a tad overrated, i really like californication, but then when By the way came out, everyone liked it more, when i felt that califonication was a better album. I also thought that song they released as a single? what was it? fortune faded? i dunno, was rubbish.

RHCP are well overrated, but I quite like some of their stuff.
You two should listen to RHCP's earlier stuff, specifically Blood Sugar Sex Magik (if you haven't already).

In my opinion any band who consistently puts out good albums lacks the ability to be overrated. The Beatles are a great revolutionary band and you know it.

YES, but they were a revolutionary band and i LOVE their music, but being put on par with God by some is a bit much for me

and THAT is why i see them as a bit overrated, not because their music lacks
