Most overrated bands ever?

Coldplay are extremely popular with the music buying public and the critics are always very easy on them. it's not funny anymore guys. Like Pink Floyd at their most drab but pandering to a slobbering radio audience. And their drummer has the most punchable face in 'rock'. Two words: PUBLIC SCHOOL. The second album was pretty good at the time though.

Many influences and far superior to Dylan in songwriting, singing and performing, not to mention more of a contemporary than anything. And which of those artists are actually new? none, because younger generations are smart enough and not too brainwashed to realize Dylan was pure crap.

1. In no way shape or form am i a music snob, and if you think so please tell me how. Use example and back up what you say for once.

2. It does not matter how good All Along the Watchtower was compared to his other songs (hendrix im talking about) and it does not matter how much you think the bands i listed suck. Its simply the fact there influenced by Dylan.

3. Before you go off on your uneducated rant about how Dylan is crap (which i am fine with, i do not like him much myself) remember what i am actually arguing with you about. You claimed he did not influence any artists in the music industry, and that noone went on to try and make music like he did. Which is obviously wrong because i have shown you a few example which you dissmissed because you thought they were crap.



Please come back with a real argument, without the name calling, and actually have facts to back up what you are saying.


edit: And stop continually saying no artist ifluenced by Dylan isn't good... That may be the case, but doesn't change the fact that Dylan influenced them greatly, and as Jay said was the voice of a culture.

Don't be a douche, of course you can feel that way about a Bob Dylan song. I'm no Dylan fan and I certainly think he's overrated. But calling him an objectively bad musician is just garbage. He's not a great singer or guitarist by any means, but he wrote songs where virtuosity isn't required. Theres nothing wrong with that.

It's hard not to be a little overrated when you're the greatest songwriter in popular music.

Oh and calling Lennon overrated dosen't take away form Dylans impact, he was a big influence on Lennon who in turn is one of the most influencial songwriters of all time. Rest assured you some music that's influenced by The Beatles.

Wrong. He was very influenced by Dylan. As a guitarist he was more influenced by players like Buddy Guy, but as a songwriter and lyricist he considered Dylan a big inspiration to him. It's even been alledged that the reason he hired Noel Redding as his bassist was because he liked his Dylan hairstyle.

Neil Young? Many influences and far superior to Dylan in songwriting, singing and performing, not to mention more of a contemporary than anything.

I too think Young is better, but that dosen't take away from Dylans impact.

Conor Oberst, Elliot Smith, Tom Pety, Roger Waters, Lou Reed, Patti Smith, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits, David Bowie and The Byrds were all influenced by Dylan.
