nice guitar. crazy technique. you definitely have chops.

but what is it that sets you apart from every other shredder from the 80s and the current generation of new guitar players who collectively turned their backs on the sloppiness of grunge from the 90s for the technique of 80s metal?

i don't mean to imply that you're a bad guitarist. far from it, just that from the two clips you're presenting you sound like every other shredder type i've ever seen or heard. there's a little vai, a little satriani, a little petrucci, a little malmsteen, with a twist of the trans siberian orchestra. like pretty much every other shredder from your generation making videos for youtube.

you've got the chops, now it's a matter of whether or not you'll use them to really distinguish yourself. or just be another really good guitar player in the crowd.

and happy b-day hehe

Those two clips are just the stuff I play for fun, my actual songs are vastly different and when I write them I usually use a clean tone and some strange chords instead of just balls to the wall shred.

thx though lol.

mr dave 04-16-2008 09:27 AM

that's cool, wouldn't mind seeing / hearing some original stuff

well the full, multipart songs i only have in midi format. I can upload those here and upload some recordings of the guitar parts to the 'tube if you want?

mr dave 04-16-2008 02:33 PM

never was a big fan of midi music. it's too dependent on specific soundcards. i'd still check out the vids though.

Its not much its just a few riffs I've used in songs before now or am planning to use soon. It doesnt bring across ANY of the scope of the real songs, but its better than nothing.

Thats awesome, I like it. You should try learning some stuff from The Fall of Troy...Thomas is an amazing and original guitarist. I'd be amped up if you posted some vids of you playing some TFOT.

that's pretty cool. reminds me a bit of metallica's 'the call of kthulu' in the first bit. i really dig the 2nd fingerpicked thing. glad to see i'm not the only person who sticks their pick in their mouth hehe

HAHAHAHAH i scrolled down when i thought it was over. HAHA

Thats VERY good.

An album you would love if you don't already is Buckethead - Electric Tears. That is very close to your playing style.

(Especially the song All In the Waiting)
