Don't Sweat the Technique:Hip Hop Album Club Voting Thread

Alright time to vote again for the next week's discussion. I'll leave about 3 days on the poll for people to vote.

what determines which albums are in the poll?
and haven't you already done this poll before?

Phantom Limb 05-27-2011 10:59 AM

Are you not going to add my Flying Lotus nomination?

What I do is take the leftovers that don't win and put them in the poll and also any new nominations that people want added I add to the poll as well from the other thread.

Sorry, I overlooked it but I don't really consider Fly Lo hip hop for this.

Imo, he experiments and makes electronic type music but I wouldn't really consider it hip hop.

If there are others that feel like Fly Lo should be added then I'll get a mod to add that album to the poll.

I voted for Jean Grae simply because I really want to go ahead and get around to hearing it, but it's worth noting that Tricks of the Shade by The Goats is really really good.

You need to listen to his discography from the beginning. He started with your standard hip hop, and then he started experimenting. Consider it "progressive hip hop". Not many others are part of this genre. I can sorta see where people would tag him as electronic, but IMO it's not right to box him in like that. I'm not super stressed about getting him on this poll, I just want people to open up their minds to what hip hop music can be.

I have cosmogramma from him, so I know what he has to offer

I also have some albums from Nujabes and Jay Electronica even though they aren't in the same experimental vein they do have some great jazz backing.

No you don't. Cosmogramma is his newest and most experimental (otherwise known as least hip hopish). His work is much broader than that and he released (at least) 3 albums prior to and building up to that.

Okay, I will put him on the voting selection for next week, no big deal

but since we have a tie up there I flipped a coin and Gift of Gab - Supreme Lyricism won.
