Just letting you folks know that I'm not voting in this poll, which I'm assuming is the real one. Not because I don't agree with the poll, but because it would be a conflict of interest if I did vote in it. SO. Thank you guys for expressing your opinions on the particular matters that Tore and the rest of the community have brought up.

I assure you that wherever any issues present themselves as ambiguous relative to the options, those issues will be re-presented with specifics if need arises, whether from a community or mod standpoint, or both.

Hell yeah. I even respect your opinion that Manowar are better than Iron Maiden! Doesn't mean I agree with it but I have to respect it. Respect in all things man, respect in all things.

"I do not agree with your opinion, but will fight to the death for your right to hold it": some French guy (Voltaire?)

I find the fact people calling them "Big Foot" little a bit annoying. But hey I respect their opinion if they believe they should be called "Big Foot." In my honest opinion I don't think they should be called "Big Foot." Still I respect the fact other people call them that.

And I think if we can respect scientist, who believe we live in a holographic universe, I think we can afford a little bit of respect for folks who believe the Earth is flat, cause it actually could be flat in a holographic universe, if those scientist are right.
Mr N brings up some valid and hilarious points. Also, didn't you ever read Terry Pratchett, Batty?

That was Voltaire who said that, and it sounds like you're missing his point. Flat earthers, racists, and anti-GMO activists can by all means have their opinion, but I'll be damned if I'm forced to respect it. I will gladly **** all over their opinions, yet I will gladly let them hold their opinions. I think we need a redux of Voltaire's quote.

Oh yes, I like that one.

That poor man is rolling in his grave.
Also, how am I missing his point? I'm certainly not familiar with his work, but wasn't he saying that everyone should be allowed have an opinion, regardless of whether he agreed with it or not?

Yes, and thinking that someone else's opinion is **** is also an opinion that one can have, hence why Voltaire is cool with not respecting opinions.

And with him being a satirist I think he would have liked my redux.

You're confusing respecting someone's right to have an opinion with actually respecting the opinion that someone has.

Why would you respect the opinion of a Flat Earther? It is not worthy of respect. They believe that the world is flat, despite international airplane travel, photographs from astronauts, and, like... science. Their belief is completely irrational, and deserves no respect, for there is nothing about the belief that holds any value. I respect their right to have the opinion that the Earth is flat, but that's all they're getting from me.

And Frownie brought up the KKK. Whether or not you agree with it, do you respect the opinion that white people are genetically superior to black people? Do you respect the opinion that the races should be kept separate and prevented from interbreeding? Do you respect the Nazis' belief that the Jews should be exterminated?

The point is, this all blew up out of nothing. All I said was in response to your criticism of Roxy's belief that her infractions, should she get them, should not be available for public scrutiny. Somehow you ended up making this a debate that has now pulled in Flat Earth, Voltaire and the KKK. Some quality trolling there man. I bow to your superior experience.

And that will be my final word on the subject, as I don't wish to a) derail the thread any more than it has already been or b) get into a discussion over whose opinion should or should not be respected.

Taxi for Trollheart? Be right with ya!

Can we have one thread that is meant to be serious where people stay on topic about the OP? This is the kind of bs that I'd like mods to respond to more consistently.

I check up on boring threads I'm not interested in such as this one just for when something off topic happens that's interesting enough for me to read or respond to it.

It's not to mention that Voltaire is one of my favourite philosophers too, I had to do something.

Nobody's really discussing anything of any relevance that hasn't already been said. The discussion is done. Now we're just waiting for the voting period to be over.
