I've been getting right carried away with the recent plethora of 'Pop' programmes and documentaries on the box lately and It's sparked a desire to dig out loads of old vinyl albums I've not listened to in years. I've always had a real thing for dedicated 3 minute pure pop - I guess being brought up listening to Buddy Holly, Bobby Darin and other 50s / 60s stuff does that to you. It makes you realise that your parents musical taste has a lot to answer for. For me it was loads of 50s & 60s pop (mainly), early 70s stuff like Budgie and Focus, Radio 2 (with its steady diet of The Carpenters, Nancy Sinatra, Neil Diamond and Kenny Rogers), through to early punk stuff that my Dad would wake me up to see on Whistle Test (old late night music TV).
By this point at around age 7 or 8, I realised just how important music was in my life. From then on it was a steady diet of New Wave, 2 Tone, Electronic, 80s pop, Early Indie, Goth, US Hardcore, Grunge, Hip-Hop, Dance, Alternative, Folk - whatever. I'm not sure where I'm going with this - it's just that I can't ever see myself getting fed up with new music or taking pleasure from stuff I'd loved in the past.
Music - it's chuffing great. Don't forget it.
