Default Biosphere

Biosphere is Geir Jenssen's main recording name, he releases some great ambient electronic music with this title. The term "arctic ambient" fits well to me, the music has a sense of coldness with it, like a chill, or a subtle breeze of crisp wind. Apparently Substrata was voted best classic ambient album of all time. Shenzhou is my favorite, though. It's like gliding through the universe in a small, dark pod. Very minimalistic, very chill.

I especially love the faint orchestral sample in the title track. It seems to drift effortlessly through your ear, into your mind.

Substrata is an amazing ambient album. To me it feels like I'm on a mountain top in sub-zero conditions, with the air thinner and with all kinds of ambient sounds reverberating off hard icy surfaces, almost tranquil in a way. I can also imagine it being pretty damn cold.

I liked his first album Microgravity as well. It's more ambient techno rather than the pure ambient of Substrata but there's some great tracks on it, such as this face melter:
