Latest new to me downloads/streams from the last few weeks:

Mazes - Wooden Aquarium (2014)
More good British indie rock, the longer running back of Jack Cooper from Ultimate Painting, my favorite discovery as of late. The other member of Ultimate Painting is in The Proper Ornaments - another great recent find - and Veronica Falls.

Joy Division - Closer (1980)
I didn't care much for this, it just seemed to lack any kind of melody. Unknown Pleasures is growing on me, partially as a result of this one. I'm not a huge fan of New Order either, though I like some of their hits and "Blue Monday" is one of my favorite tracks of all time. As it turns out, New Order's debut is the release I like most from the Joy Division/New Order camp.

Sunken Foal - Friday Syndrome Vol. 3 (2015)
4 stars out the gate and likely to grow. This guy is genius, I don't listen to that much new electronic stuff these days but this guy holds my attention.

Joey Bada$$ - B4.DA.$$ (2015)
I don't listen to too much new hip-hop but somehow this one got on my radar, maybe because I heard it had a 90s conscious hip-hop vibe. Well it does, and I liked what I heard. I played it last weekend on the way to or from the ski slopes, I'll need to have a headphone listen one of these days as the road is noisy sometimes and I just have a stock sound system in the car.

The Go-Betweens - Send Me a Lullaby (1982)
First time I've listened to this band. I've played it a few times now, and I like it, but the vocalist is a tad weak on this one. Music is tight.

Sonny and the Sunsets - Talent Night at the Ashram (2015)
New Sonny & The Sunsets album out last week. I was just exposed to the group with their last one, Antenna to the Afterworld, which had a handful of great tracks with neo-psych-meets-country-rock production. I then moved on to the album before that, Longtime Companion, which I liked even more with its more stripped-down country rock/old country production. So when anticipating the new one, it could have gone one of two ways - more neo-psych or more country rock. I'm happy to report it leans more toward the country-rock style, or at least the production is more stripped down and not so neo-psych. Good tunes here and the album should be in rotation for a while.

Golden Drugs - In the Midnight Sun or Stubbornly Persistent Illusion (2015)
Indie rock with some neo-psych and folk elements, that frequently reminds me of the great Dutch indie band Alamo Race Track. These guys are a bit more experimental with their sound perhaps.

The Growlers - Chinese Fountain (2014)
When this first came out I heard a few songs and noticed a change in their sound, a bit more produced, less raw. The title track sounded a bit dancey and synthy, like Arcade Fire or something and it really threw me off. But I thought the album sounded good once I heard the whole thing, it just has a few songs that are a little out of character.

José González - Vestiges & Claws (2015)
I've never listened to this guy, though I've heard of him, but the girlfriend expressed interest in getting this album so I bought it for her when I visited a few record shops last weekend. Clear vinyl edition, ooh la la. Sounded ok, not really my thing.

I'd love to see your signature/links too, but the huge and obnoxious ones have caused me to block all signatures.

Continued recent downloads/streams:

Jacco Gardner - Cabinet of Curiosities (2013)
This is some quite good neo-psychedelic pop. Some sounds right out of the 60s, the rest is more obviously of the neo variety. There are some late 60s neo-prog elements in here as well, I was reminded of Giles, Giles and Fripp a couple of times.

Creepoid - Creepoid (2014)
Sort of shoegaze-y indie rock with male and female vocals. Sometimes it makes me think of Black Mountain, maybe mostly in the vocals but sometimes musically. More indie, less stoner I guess.

The Stooges - The Stooges (1969)
I've not the biggest Iggie fan and only listened to Fun House within the last couple of years. It's growing on me, and this one seemed pretty good on first listen. Didn't really care for the extra-long track that's third on the album, but that may grow on me too.

Siskiyou - Nervous (2015)
Learned about this band last week somehow, don't remember how but I added the album to my to-do list. As I just learned, they were formed in Vancouver by a former member of Great Lake Swimmers and a still-member - Colin Huebert and Erik Arnesen, respectively. I'm liking this so far, it's reminding me of both Arcade Fire and Sunset Rubdown, mainly because the vocalist (Colin Huebert) sounds like Spencer Krug at times. This is their third LP, but the first I've heard.

Steven Wilson - Hand. Cannot. Erase (2015)

Swell album, this. Wilson's circling back into mid-00's Porcupine Tree territory with some jazz and electronic elements thrown in for good measure, but still makes a divine effort to deliver some tasty pure prog goods on 'Home Invasion / Regret #9' (amongst other cuts).

Shy - Shy (2011)

Scandinavian AOR at its finest. Huge hooks everywhere you can imagine, complete with a friggin' orchestra backing up the main band. 'Only The Night' may be the single best power ballad I've ever laid ears upon.

I've been wondering whether or not this album was any good. I haven't listened to it for myself yet, but it's in my queue. Glad to hear you're enjoying it, will definitely give it a listen tomorrow.

Really good acid that was apparently pressed, and shelved in the early 90's. Apparently the label Hard Wax was contacted and asked to sell these. That's all we know, and there's already a 4th one out apparently. My wallet is looking at me, begging me not to reach deep inside it and extract it's contents for these on wax.

To get myself pumped for the new album coming out, i'm giving this a listen for probably the millionth time. This album is so ****ing good and is probably one of the best albums in the genre. It's not only heavy but the story is so in depth that it feels like a journey as you listen to it. Honestly, it's easily in my top 5 albums of all time.

Romare - Projections (2015)

A mish-mash of genres celebrating African-American culture - picture a more lively, danceable DJ Shadow. Samples of jazz, gospel, and hip-hop are chopped and sliced together with choppy synth chords and beats. Enjoying this a lot.

Will Butler - Policy (2015)

A pleasantly surprising indie pop debut by one of the founding members of Arcade Fire. The whole thing clocks in at a crisp 27 minutes, but it's got enough catchy hooks and hummable riffs to keep it spinning for a while. I was surprised by how much I liked this!

Wow, had no idea this was even out. Also didn't know its a short record, I love me some short length records.
