Next up:

Album: The Second Annual Report
Artist: Throbbing Gristle
Genre: Industrial
Suggested by: Frownland
Familiarity: I've been interested in checking out some of P-Orridge's stuff, but never heard any of it.

1. Industrial Introduction - Basically just a drone. Alright then. I mean, there have been longer intro songs (DSoTM).

2. 3. and 4. Slug Bait - Weird. Very impressive for a live show, actually. The lyrics are freaky. It's pretty funny too. Not catchy at all, but intriguing enough to last the entire song. I like how each rendition is different, making each song feel unique. The bass line is really cool in number 3. The lyrics are pretty screwed up (lol).

5. 6. 7. and 8. Maggot Death - Holy hell it's weird. I like it though. So far, pretty good. The studio version is awesome.
Probably the Southampton is my least favorite. The Brighton one wasn't really even any song there. Just spoken word.

9. After Cease to Exist - Calming and expressionist. I expected to hate it, but it's actually not half-bad. Especially because it doesn't repeat itself. There are all these cool, yet creepy ideas, all mixed together. Pretty cool stuff, all in all. The kind of stuff you put on in the background while you do something else.

It's a weird album, and while it's hard to tolerate listening to it all the way through on its own, I started playing some agar.io late into the last song, and it began seeming like the most interesting thing ever. Anyways, not great, but not horrible either.
OVERALL RATING: 7/10

Ah, great. I'm delighted you liked it. That album is a part of my teenage years, very special to me. One of the very best, in my opinion, examples of taking an existing storyline and adding music to it, but so much more.

If I can add this for your next rec when my time comes back around? Another sort of concept album, based around the idea of flight.

I thought you were talking about Throbbing Gristle in this post and had to do a quintuple take.

I find the lyrics to that song far more disturbing than anything any death metal band has ever written. And the delivery is just chilling.

Here at the "Last" of these ones.

Album: Music, Magic, Myth
Artist: The Last Emperor
Genre: Hip Hop
Suggested by: DwnWthVwls
Familiarity: None.

1. Intro - This intro is definitely cool. A bit of comedy is great to start with.

2. Who's That - Great mix, great lyrics, but a bit of a stuttering flow. However, I like it because it's unique. Good. Very good.
3. Some Love, Some Hate - Now that I think about it, this one is reminiscent of Late 80s/Early 90s hip-hop. Anyways, I like the first song, the beat is infectious, and the lyrics are good. It's easy to understand, and hard to ignore. And the mixing is good as well. Lots of layering. There's nothing amazing about it, but it's all consistently good.

4. Tiger Trail - Another great mix, but the the flow and lyrics aren't quite as good. The chorus is still great, though. Alright, then.

5. Prisoner - Another great mix, and the lyrics and flow are much better.

6. Karma - Even better mix, even better lyrics, even better flow. I'm really loving this now.

7. One Life Feat. Too Poetic - Same kind of stuff, but it keeps getting better. A little more depressing, but a little more beautiful too. Awesome.

8. Meditation - The flow is obviously better on this one. The lyrics are great as usual. The mix takes a bit of a backseat this time, but it works. Great.

9. Animalistics - All the animal noises are pretty funny. They're very well mixed. Lyrics are good, flow is good, and the mix is good too. So much good stuff here.

10. The Underground - Same sort of thing. Still just as good (somehow). Seems like a bit of reggae influence here, too.

11. The Block Party Feat. Cocoa Brovas - Still good, if not a tiny bit redundant at this point. Drummer's really laying it down here.

12. Do You Care? - Aw, yeah. Jazzing it up, I see. The mix is unique, and I'm getting back into it. An awesome song again. The chorus is the highlight of the song, and it's awesome. The flow is good too. Great.

13. Shine - Yup. Still good. I can't believe this album is still as infectious as it was at the start.

14. The Incredible Man - Significantly funkier from the get-go, and yes... It's still good.

15. Let's Ride - A bit of latin thrown in, why not? This one's also original and awesome.

16. Hold On - Great stuff, I'm just tuning out at this point, I can't tell the difference between the songs anymore.

17. Single Mother - It's SOsosososo good. Lyrics, mixing, flow, everything is good.

18. The Great Pretender - No redundancy, no problems. This is awesome.

19. Outro - Again, a bit of humor goes a long way. I love it.

20. Secret Wars, Pt. 1 - Despite the album feeling concluded with side D, the secret wars are excellent. Basically just a projection of what would happen if a bunch of fictional characters battled. It's a very strange concept, but it definitely works in practice. As long as the track keeps going, the rhymes keep flowing, and redundancy isn't showing.

21. Secret Wars, Pt. 2 - See above.

22. Here We Are - Feels a bit like a leftover, over here all alone. But whatever, it's not that bad.

The album has so many interesting twists and turns, and it's absolutely amazing that it was able to hold my interest for so long. It even inspired me to write some lyrics for a rap song, so thanks, Last Emperor! Anyways, the mixing's great, the lyrics are great, and the flow is great. Not much else to say. Because of a few minor hiccups, it'll have to be a...

A tiny bit quiet around here. Should I do a bump? Let's see, is this how you do it? Bump!
Welcome to part three.

Album: Remblandt Assemblage
Artist: Merzbow
Genre: Noise
Suggested by: grindy
Familiarity: I did the first two. Now it's time for the third.

1. Remblandt Assemblage - Hey, look! We have tape loops! Some pretty freaky and textured stuff, and I can definitely get behind it. I just hope it's still intriguing by the end. Seems like it's speeding up. Maybe it's just me, but I think it is. Almost feels like a dance track with the beat in the background. Lots of cool stuff, but feels a bit like background music. It's actually great for casual listening, but not for intense focus. Alright, cool.

2. Voice of Scwitters - This is freaky. Definitely not for casual listening. Still pretty cool though. Made me laugh.

3. Theme of Dadaist - Got some guitar this time. Totally fits with the title. Not boring at all. Which is surprising for a nine-minute long experimental song. Lots of things happening by the end. I like it.

4. Hans Arp - Guitar like nuts. Still good. I want more like this.

5. Tape Dada - Scary. Got some radio feeding in too. Lots of tape loops and guitar squealing. How does he even make some of these noises. Sounds a bit like a motor. Backwards tapes and psycho drums as well. This is my favorite track so far.

6. Music Concret - My only response is this:
Nevermind, I have more. I like the random scraping/banging noises. It's good.

7. Prepared Guitar Solo 1 - It's good, but it's also more like background music. I'm into it. It's just, alright.

8. Prepared Guitar Solo 2 - And another one. Basically like the last one. Just a lot of random guitar plucking. It's pretty boring.

This was looking very promising, but then the random guitar came on, and I was like, "Whelp, that's that." Put it on in the background, you'll probably have a good time. Try and pay attention, and the whole thing just falls apart.

And another.

Album: Worms in the Keys
Artist: Self Spiller
Genre: Black Metal/Experimental Metal
Suggested by: mythsofmetal
Familiarity: None.

1. The Event - A bit jazzier than I expected. The echo is pretty cool. Very short, but I really like it.

2. Folds Of Skin To Lay - At first, I thought there was something wrong with my audio, until I figured out it was supposed to be quiet. The intro is very good, but after that, there's a bit of a bad transition. The second part is also good, but that transition really bugs me. Maybe a cross-fade would have solved the problem. Anyways, it's pretty light metal. A bit of mild distortion, and growled vocals are really the only metallic thing about it. I really like it though. Imagine King Crimson as a black metal band. Then there's also a third section with another bad transition. Stahp, please. Anyways, the music itself is awesome. I was definitely correct in my comparison to King Crimson. It's weird hearing black metal with a saxophone. I do feel like it would be better if the separate elements were all mixed together, rather than one after the other, but it's really cool stuff anyways. Great!

3. Like Three Asps - This track actually fixes some of the issues I had with the previous one. Does that mean I like it more? The answer is a resounding "Yes!", and I love this song. Sounds like the soundtrack to Rogue Legacy, if you've ever played it.

4. Therefore I Worship - This one feels a bit more gothic. A bit industrial too. There are a couple bad transitions in this one too, but they don't detract from the overall feel too much. I really love it.

5. Rot On Root - Similar to the others in style, and still very good.

6. I Spit In The Stomach Of Zombies - A bit more experimental. Sounds like glitch metal at the start. Still just as awesome. I'm really into it now.

7. SKITE - Weird time signatures are always welcome here. It's the same kind of stuff, until it calms down at the end. I like the whole song, but the ending really blows me away. It's totally awesome.

8. Strong But Damaged - Quieter and stranger, this seems like the thinking metal fan's song. It's a little bit simpler than the rest, but that doesn't quite detract from its worth. The band proves with this song that they can have depth.

This album is awesome, but the crappy transitions between different sections of the songs really detracts from its value. However, beyond that, it's a well performed, and well produced album that deserves a spot on any experimental or metal fan's shelf. Some of the songs also feel a bit inspired by prog, so if you like bands like Opeth, I would definitely give this album a listen. It's brilliant.
OVERALL RATING: 9/10
