Album title: Prelude
Artist: April
Genre: K-pop
Nationality: Korean
Release date: January 4
Position in Discography: Third
Familiar with this artist? No
Familiar with the genre or subgenre? No, but getting slowly moreso
Check out more from this artist? Maybe, yes
Check out more from this genre or subgenre? Aye

This is billed an an EP rather than an album, and it does only clock in at the half hour mark, but I know metal albums that run for shorter than that (Reign in Blood, anyone?) so it's not really what I'd call an EP, not with nine tracks. Kind of hard to say much about this really. Another nice K-pop album with not really anything standing out – one nice ballad in “Fine Thank You” and some beautiful piano introducing the next track, “Dream Candy”, which starts off balladic but quickly kicks up into a boppy popper. Nice vocal harmonies. Hmm. Last track is an instrumental. That's different. Pretty cool album all told. Nothing to rave about, but I'd listen to it again. Maybe.

Album title: Pink Season
Artist: Pink Guy
Genre: Comedy Hip-Hop (it says here)
Nationality: Japanese/Australian
Release date: January 4
Position in Discography: Second
Familiar with this artist? Barely; his debut was inflicted on me by some nasty soul for the “Love or Hate?” thread. Not surprisingly, it got a big fat HATE. I never managed to get through it. Doubt I will this time either. Get-out clause at the ready!
Familiar with the genre or subgenre? No
Check out more from this artist? Not as long as there's life in my body
Check out more from this genre or subgenre? Absolutely not.

It kind of doesn't help when there are like thirty-five tracks on an album, and considering I really don't want to listen to this in the first place, well, that's not making me feel any kinder towards it. Still, they are all short tracks, so maybe I'll make it through. Doubt it though. Well, apparently all he wants is to see a hot nickel ball on a pussy. Be my guest. Guess he's an animal lover huh? I like cats too.

Okay, well to nobody's surprise, I ain't sitting through 32 more tracks of this so for the first time it's

I got too many albums to listen to to be wasting my time with this crap.

(As I didn't finish the album I won't be rating it).

Album title: Meant to Be
Artist: Nothing But You
Genre: Jazz, Easy Listening
Nationality: Japanese
Release date: January 5
Position in Discography: Debut
Familiar with this artist? No
Familiar with the genre or subgenre? No
Check out more from this artist? Not quite sure; her vocals don't sit right with me
Check out more from this genre or subgenre? Quite possibly

Hell, I can't believe I'm actually looking forward to some jazz after suffering through even five minutes of Pink Guy! I hope I may enjoy this. Hmm. I could do without the weird talking on the opener but HOLY **** THEY'RE COVERING DAVID ****ING GATES!!!! I LOVE “Lost Without Love”!!! Right then, looking down the list I see I know just about every cover they're doing here, so hopefully this will be an enjoyable ride. Can't say to be honest I'm crazy about her voice, but the pianist is amazing. I don't know jazz of course, but the singer seems to be very over-dramatic, maybe that's just how she is: kind of vamping it up maybe? Sings well though. The selection of tracks is great too.

I'd like this a whole lot more if I was more of a fan of her singing style, but it's hard to get past that. Even so, one of the best so far.

Album title: Nomad
Artist: Chasing Safety
Genre: Metalcore, Post-Hardcore
Nationality: American
Release date: January 5
Position in Discography: Second
Familiar with this artist? No
Familiar with the genre or subgenre? Very little
Check out more from this artist? Meh, probably not
Check out more from this genre or subgenre? Possible though not a priority at the moment

This could be a short one, even the first use of my “Oh Hell No!” clause. What little metalcore I've heard I have hated – and yes, that includes Jane ****ing Doe! Have heard very little Post-Hardcore, but again what I have experienced didn't impress me. Nothing I've yet heard from metalcore has appealed to me in any way, even during the three Metal Months I ran. Is this the one to change that? Highly unlikely.

Or is it? Hey. I don't hate this. Yet. The other metalcore I listened to I could make out nothing of vocals, and here, though this guy is roaring and screaming, I can sort of make out the words – and they use “clean” vocals on the chorus, at least on the first song. Perhaps there's hope. Meh, it's probably more Post-Hardcore than Metalcore. What do I know? Well, I do know I won't be switching this off at track one, which is more than I expected to be able to do. This isn't all that bad. I mean, it's probably not something I'd listen to again, as such, but I don't feel I'm going to have to stop the album before the end or anything. I'm not a fan of singers who scream, but there are enough clean vocals here for me to be able to enjoy this a little. Quite surprised really.

I can't believe dull trash metalcore like that still exists in 2017.
