I'm sure it's possible that there are worse thrash bands out there but I've never heard one. Maybe the time I saw them was an unusual case—or maybe the time you saw them was—but in my experience they had a hundred times the intensity live.

It's funny. My opinion on Megadeth is opposite. A very good band on the album front. Sure, not all 15 albums are amazing, but I like them all at least a little. A handful of those albums are classics. Easily my favorite of the big 4 or really of the whole genre.

Live, however, Mustaine is wildly inconsistent. It seems that more often than not, his vocal delivery is completely off. They play really well live, but it's pretty easy to find clips from shows where Mustaine sounds like a cat being tortured to death. I say this as a fan of his singing on the studio albums.

They also just tend to stand around, focusing on their instruments. Not the craziest live shows ever.

That is very much the opposite of my take on them. On the albums at least, Megadeth really lack the energy and intensity that I look for in thrash. In fact, the only reason I really consider them thrash is that they were part of that scene. Stylistically, they have more in common with NWOBHM, and the hardcore punk element, which is a key ingredient of thrash, is almost completely absent from their music.

When I saw them live, there was decidedly more intensity to the music. It sounded heavier and more energetic, and Mustaine's vocals had a punkier edge to them rather than the thin, glam metal type vocals he uses on the albums.

I agree they barely qualify as thrash. On most of their albums, anyway.
What I look for in the band is really something completely different from what you're looking for. I love the melodic side of the band and I guess you could say they're a sort of alternative rock/alternative metal band on many of their albums. I just find the guitar playing on almost all their songs to be the saving grace that I enjoy no matter how true it is that they're sort of well past their prime as a thrash band.

And although she was a candidate, thank God she never became President of Ireland!

^ Yikes indeed! Singing pop songs and running a country require pretty different skills I suspect. ( Ran through my head the idea of changing the lyrics of All Kinds of Everything into a political manifesto - but then again, no... )

Yeah. Apparently she had no intention of standing, but the good old Irish Christian community badgered her. She didn't win (obviously) but she did gain a seat in the European Parliament. Hey, weirder things have happened: imagine if a reality TV show host ever became President of the .... oh.
