I think I pretty much agree with the first post in this thread.

I have to say though, that after reading a bunch of forums I'm surprised at the reactions to the two versions of The Office. I've seen a lot of Americans saying that the American version of The Office is great, and that they hated (they probably used stonger words here) the British version. Myself, well, I didn't like the first episode of the American version (I'm a huge British version fan), but as I've watched a few more episodes it is slowly growing on me, but there is definitely that slightly more conservative feel. Also, if feels like everything in the American version has to be explicit and explained to the viewer in dialogue.

Peep Show just takes a little getting used to, after that you'll love it. Also check out Look Around You, Brass Eye, 'Allo 'Allo, Trigger Happy TV, Green Wing, Mighty Boosh, Shameless, Teachers, Extras, Black Books, Garth Marenghis Dark Place ... there's loads of awesome British Comedy. Not so much American (seriously, Arrested Development, Scrubs, and a few cartoons that get stretched to an unbelievable quantity of episodes. What else do you have though? Very little innovation or progression.)

Scrubs is good, but the constant narration gets a little annoying.

Nah, if you had said Little Britain takes a bit of getting used to yeah, but Peep show just isn't very funny...
Allo Allo is antient, they're actually doing a rerun on the national telly...I thought it was funny when I was 5...not so much now...
I preffer the cheaky bastard sort of comedies a la "Blackadder" or " The new statesman" ( Rick Mayall is a fucking genious! )

IMO, Peep Show didn't REALLY pick up until series 2. Allo Allo is more taking the piss out of the French, but it was irreverant and progressive. Little Britain dropped in Season 2 and was practically out of it in Season 3. You'd like Rock Profile though, by the same people.

Being English im going to say British comedy really arent i. I grew up on shows such as Alan Partridge, The Office, Extra's, Little Britian, Rob Brydon's Analy Retentive etc etc, i love how subtle British humour is, it doesnt rely on shock value or 'jokes' to get a reaction out of people, its humour is in the intelligence of the scripts, the situations and the acting. Quite often little is more in British comedy.

That said there is American comedy that really makes me laugh. Curb Your Enthusiasm is pure genius, but again to me its a very British style of comedy, not disimiliar from the Office (UK).

I can't recall any British Comedy unless Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz count... and those are hilarious.
