Which 60s British band was best?

I'm talking mostly about the main four (Beatles, Who, Rolling Stones and Kinks), but you can always suggest others if you like none of (excluding bands that formed on the cusp end of the decade).

I go for The Who, followed by The Kinks or the Stones. The Beatles never really appealed to me, despite being the most successful.

If we're going for bands that came from the 60's, I'd easily go with Led Zeppelin. If we're talking bands more known for their 60's work, it's a toughie but I think I'd go with Beach Boys.

Doh!

Beastie Boys, then. :D

Actually, I think I'd go Beatles. I think they are overrated, but everyone else is someone I'd choose for their 70's work, like Stones. Plus I haven't heard enough Kinks.

For a brief period of time during the start of the British Invasion (say 64 - 66) The Dave Clack Five were as popular if not more than any of the British bands of the time (including the Beatles). The only thing that really separated them from the rest and I think lead to their downfall was that sort of squeaky clean image they used to project. They were pure 'pop'. It worked for mid-60s television but the audiences were going with the groups that were moving closer to the edge.

  1. The Rolling Stones
  2. The Beatles
  3. The Yardbirds
  4. The Kinks

I think the Yardbirds are much better than The Who.

I'd say stones. They are amazing.

Pink Floyd would be at the top of my list.

For the far-reaching impact and cultural significance, The Beatles win by a country mile. But The Rolling Stones, The Who and The Kinks all tie in for second place in my opinion.
