Default Eli "Paperboy" Reed

This forum is a bit dead so I thought I'd make a thread even thought this isn't really my thang (I just like making threads)...

Copy past time: "Jesus H. Christ! Here’s a voice and a half that means the name of Eli ‘Paperboy’ Reed can be uttered in the same sentence as Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett and Sam Cook without fear of embarrassment. With his electrifying live act (”I rip a lot of pants.”), he’s on his own ‘mission from God’ to pick up the mantle of Jake and Elwood as flag bearer for the Stax/Chess/Motown legacy."

I like the old school production. May well be worth a listen.

Impressions on the first listen was that Eli "Paperboy" Reed should have stuck to his paper round.
It's not that bad though, but comparing him to the likes of Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett and Sam Cook is stretching it a bit.
'The Satisfier' sounds like it was lifted straight from Redding's 'Hard to Handle', but the 'Doin' the Boom Boom' track was brilliant.
Loved the band and it's good to see the upright bass isn't completely dead along with that brand of R&B.
Wouldn't mind hearing more.

The comparisons are a little premature but the production is down and dirty and there are some great tunes dotted throughout.

seen him in glasgow,he was outstanding, and really should be compared to the great soul singers, his support band were tasty as well, the right oners, spanish i think, back to eli he sang a couple of songs without his backing band, pure southern soul magic something even james carr would've applauded
