1st soul:
Marvin G*** - Trouble Man
(the album that was also the soundtrack to the movie of the same name)
Whenever I speak to people, they will never mention this excellent album of Marvin's.

1st Funk:
James Brown - The Payback

1st Soul
Technically is was a greatest hits of The Commodores
But my first actual album: Al Green Call Me and it is still my favorite. 'Here I Am (Come and Take Me)' is pure silky soulful goodness.

1st Funk
Kool & the Gang: Self Titled Album.
All their songs just sound like a big party. A really fun album.

Arrow I Gotcha-Joe Tex.

One of the most memorable funk songs from the 70s for me personally is, I Gotcha by Joe Tex. Released around 1971 or '72, this particular song was all mainstream back in the day and got alot of air-play over the radio.
