maybe God thought it's more fun having the humans to chase after prey
a girl who wants pursuit is more interesting than a girl who just takes you on just like that - if you want an analogy
edit :- at any rate, I don't see traditionally domicile animals for meat (pig, sheep and cows) running away or putting up much of a fight, they just stand there for slaughter
