I listen to a new album from start to finish the first time. I pick the tracks that I like and usually add them to a playlist and put them in rotation. Once I find elements of those tracks that I like, I'll go back over the skipped tracks after a few days to see if they contain those same elements (incase I missed them the first time).
I try to keep everything in a good mix so that I won't get burned out on an artist.
