I was just about to re-phrase my post. Yes, there really aren't any similarities. I just think that Dylan doesn't really get enough respect from big avant-garde and Beefheart fans. He wasn't avant-garde, but he really opened the door of possibilities for popular music. And I think he deserves some credit for that. His lyrics were pretty odd and experimental at the time. I think the Zappa quote says it best.
