Savatage have been mentioned on several occasions on the thread but this is the first album recommendation by me on here. Savatage originally started out as a speed metal act and their first couple of releases have been seen as early death metal influences, by the time the band reached their third album the terrible
Fight for the Rock, the band needed something of a facelift and shifted into a power metal direction, and producing the great
Hall of the Mountain King in 1987 and it was full of great riffs provided by the late Chris Oliva, brother of singer Jon Oliva. What this band may have lacked in the songwriting department, they more than made up with great enjoyable metal and this album still sounds great today.
