I remember seeing Batman Returns, my grandpa took me to the theatre that night with the hopes of us seeing Pinnochio. A few minutes into Batman, he looked over at me in shock and said "You know... there is still time to go to Pinnochio"... which made sense, that movie was dark and frightening to many children, so much so that McDonalds cancelled their toy line..

But he toughed it out for the remainder of the movie.

Personally though, I think Batman Returns is the second worst of those movies, after Batman Forever and before Batman and Robin. Batman Forever was more of a family film, but it had great visuals and kept you watching til the end. Returns was just depressing and had a sorta week storyline. But the performances made up for it.

In other words, typical Burton film.... the visuals are great and keep you watching, so that you won't notice that the writing is pretty bland. But back then, I didn't care, was Batman.

Anyways, with that said, you can guarentee I will be taking that day off from work and going to the theatre to see them new film, doubt it will live up to The Dark Knight, but it will sure as hell try anyways.
Yea, back then, the entire concept of Batman was awesome to me, and the finer details weren't really in my focus, but I'm sure the sentimentality has something to do with the fact that I can still watch both Keaton Batmans and enjoy them. I can't really do it that much with the rest, up until the Nolan films.
